True Love - The Story

The story of "True Love" follows Ian, Abby and Jake as they become friends in High School and what happens to their relationship in the following three years. Each character has their own thoughts and desires that send them on their own individual paths of discovery. In addition to Ian, Abby and Jake, there are a number of supporting characters who also affect their lives.

The Characters

Ian Ericks (Johnny Fuerst) - Ian's journey is at the heart of the story of "True Love." The journey begins during Ian's senior year of high school as he wonders how he'll ever know who his "true" love will be and how he will find her. As his journey continues, Ian's notions of love are challenged and re-defined until he realizes that his search for "true" love almost costs him a form of love more valuable than the one he was searching for. A shining example of the term "hopeless romantic," Ian knows what he wants from love but has no clue how to find love. Quiet, inquisitive, imaginitive, sometimes awkward but very sincere, Ian's most notorious character trait is his uncanny knack for over-analyzing everything.

Jake (Matthew Harmon) - Jake is completely happy with the way his life's going at the beginning of "True Love," not a care in the world. His only real problem is he has to always get best friend Ian to loosen up and just play things cool. Jake is a firm believer of "if it feels good, do it." Things change when a tryst with school slut Victoria starts to feel so good that Jake starts to have real feelings for her. When Victoria dumps him like a bad habit for a college guy with a Camaro, Jake is left to deal with these new feelings on his own. From a simple life of video games and cartoons, Jake grows to care and fight for more important things in life. Charming, sociable, reactionary and sometimes impulsive, Jake listens to his heart more often than to his head.

Abby Lewis (Eryn Kamph) - Abby begins her path of change as a junior just moved into Ian and Jake's school district. Raised by religious and traditional parents, Abby's experiences in "True Love" lead her to question the things she was taught to believe. Do you stay faithful to the one you love no matter how hard things get? Or should you do what feels right at the time? After becoming involved in one long-distance relationship after another, Abby's notions of loyalty and commitment are challenged to the limit. Sweet, caring, very spiritual yet indecisive, Abby is the girl-next-door that must choose which boy she goes home with at the end of the film.

Ian's Dad (Bruce Hyde) - Church Pastor and widower father to Ian, Dale Ericks is a very reserved man who is always seen having a look of contemplation in his eyes. While he cares deeply for his son, Dale tries to keep himself from interfering with Ian's life, sometimes even when Ian needs a pearl of wisdom but is unable to ask for it. Dale is very passionate about preventing Ian from making the same mistakes he made in his youth and only rarely loses his temper when trying to do so.

Beth (Tera Kilbride) - If goddesses still walked the face of the Earth, than Beth would definitely be one. Beautiful beyond words with a loving smile and deep, caring eyes, Beth is a woman unlike any Ian's ever met before. She is a kindred spirit to Ian, seeing beyond the surface and into his heart. Open, vibrant, exotic and very intelligent, Beth easily is the girl of any man's dreams.
